The Department offers majors in Criminology, International Studies, Paralegal Studies, Political Science, and Sociology.
The Department offers minors in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, International Studies, Non-Profit Management, Political Science, Public Administration, Pre-Law, and Sociology.
Students are able to double-major, major and minor, or pursue two minors while at Lander University. Interested students should speak with an advisor to discuss detailed plans.
All students in the department benefit from a SOSC 199: Careers in the Social Sciences courses that is taken in the first two years and helps the student to explore career opportunities. Further, all students take one or two research oriented courses – SOSC 301: Qualitative Research and SOSC 302: Quantitative Research – that helps them to develop research skills that are necessary for a successful career. (Some students take advantage of undergraduate research mentorship by a faculty member in their discipline, although this is not required for graduation.) Students in all disciplines enhance their oral and written communication skills in various courses and all have a capstone experience or seminar with a 499 number, that serves as a synthesis of their major and helps them to prepare for a career and/or graduate or professional school following graduation from Lander.
