College of Education

Vision
We educate. We inspire. We transform.

Mission
The College of Education at Lander University is a leader in the preparation and support of teacher candidates, in-service teachers, and school districts for the state of South Carolina and the Southeastern Region. Through innovative pedagogy, collaborative partnerships, evidence-based research, and a growth-oriented atmosphere, we cultivate a welcoming environment where all faculty, staff, and teacher candidates thrive. All Teacher Education Programs are accredited by the appropriate specialty professional association and the unit is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Core Values:
1. Effective education should be proactively responsive, modeling purposeful strategies that adapt to students’ needs and challenges.
2. A student-centered approach emphasizes real-world application, inclusivity, and fairness to foster deeper learning and engagement.
3. Resilience, grit, and perseverance are essential traits for success, reflecting the idea that “the show must go on” despite obstacles.
4. Building strong relationships, trust, and community is foundational to creating a meaningful and supportive learning environment.
5. Preparing students for the workforce requires a balance of theory and experience, guided by a growth mindset, data-informed decisions, and strong content knowledge.

All teacher education programs at Lander University are guided by Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards, a nationally recognized model that outlines teacher competencies “to ensure that every K-12 student reaches the goal of being ready to enter college or the workforce in today’s world.” InTASC Standards, listed below, provide direction for programs, courses, teaching, and teacher candidate assessment:
