Mission Statement
The mission of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences is to provide our students with a high quality, relationship-rich education in the dynamic disciplines of the liberal arts. Our degree programs focus on academic excellence, career readiness, and professional development as well as the skills and knowledge our students need to become responsible and engaged citizens in their communities and wider world.

The Department of Art explores a wide variety of media and disciplines—including painting, photography, ceramics, and sculpture—to foster creativity, professional artistic skills, and an appreciation for both the visual arts and the cultures that produce them.
The Department of Communication and Languages explores writing, speech, reading, and textual analysis to cultivate language skills, intercultural experiences, and cultural literacy.
The Department of Government, Criminology, and Sociology investigates the social, political, and cultural relationships among individuals, organizations, and institutions.
The Department of History and Philosophy seeks an understanding of the fullness of past human experiences and reflects upon humankind's unceasing pursuit of wisdom.
The Department of Military Science and Leadership partners with Lander University to recruit, educate, develop, and inspire cadets in order to commission officers of character for the Total Army.
The Department of Music affords opportunities not only for developing self-discipline, creativity, an appreciation for making music, and an understanding of its impact, but also for life-long personal enrichment through music.
The Department of Psychological Science and Human Services investigates the dynamic relationship between environmental and biological influences on behavior, cognition, and emotion.

Regardless of which disciplinary path students take, our faculty mentor students to graduate with the necessary critical thinking, technology, communication, and collaboration skills to excel in a wide range of career fields or in further graduate study.
