ACCT 199 Accounting Lab
This one-credit “Accounting Boot Camp” course is designed to prepare students for success in their first Principles of Accounting class. The course focuses on building readiness, confidence, and essential skills by introducing the purpose of accounting and its role in business decision-making. Students will explore the accounting equation and review prerequisite math skills such as ratios and percentages. Emphasis is placed on organizing data systematically and practicing accuracy, attention to detail, and persistence when working with numbers. At a high level, students will examine the accounting cycle, learning how transactions progress into journal entries, trial balances, and financial statements. The course also introduces basic technology tools—such as Excel, Google Sheets, and QuickBooks—for recording and analyzing transactions. Through hands-on activities, students will gain confidence in viewing accounting as a practical, logical discipline rather than an intimidating challenge. One credit hour.
