CHEM 221 Organic Chemistry I

A study of aliphatic hydrocarbons, alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers, and related compounds with an emphasis on nomenclature, physical properties, preparation reactions, general reactions, mechanisms, and synthesis. Isomerism and stereochemistry are discussed in relationship to all organic groups. Lecture is accompanied by laboratory hours weekly. Prerequisite: CHEM 112. Four credit hours.
