PUBH 460 Collectivist Societies and Health
This course provides an in-depth view of the health beliefs, practices and health outcomes of Amish, Mennonite and other collectivist communities. This course will be drawn from Public Health, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology and Medicine. Students will research relevant topics such as health disparities, mental health, health psychology, genetic disorders, and use of complementary and alternative medicine. Students will also explore community-based care and ethical and religious considerations involved in engaging rural communities and understanding their health beliefs and practices. Prerequisites:
PUBH 165 and
PUBH 310. Three credit hours.
