CRIM 230 Alternative to Incarceration

This course explores contemporary alternatives to incarceration with an emphasis on community-based corrections. Students will examine the philosophy, structure, and effectiveness of community-based sanctions such as: diversion programs, problem-solving courts, restorative practices, and innovative sentencing and supervision techniques. Students will engage in hands-on exercises involving intake processes, risk/needs assessment, and case management planning. Prerequisite: C or above in either CRIM 101 or 102. Three credit hours.
