SOSC 301 Qualitative Research

In this course, students will be equipped for qualitative literacy. This course familiarizes students with the rich world of qualitative research methods commonly used by social scientists. Throughout the semester, students will be exposed to various concepts and techniques for qualitative data gathering such as interviews, ethnography, content analysis, field work, photovoice, and grounded theory. Students will also engage with ethical issues of human subjects research as well as issues of data management and quality. Prerequisite: “C” or better in ENGL 101 and either SOCI 101, CRIM 101, or POLS 101 with at least six additional hours in any of those three disciplines. May not be taken simultaneously with SOSC 302. Three credit hours.
