BIOL 421 General Microbiology
Using examples from bacteria, protozoa, fungi, and viruses, the following concepts will be emphasized: evolution, microbial structures and functions, metabolic diversity, microbial genetics, interactions within systems, impact of microbes on the environment and humans, and microbial control. Laboratory skills in manipulating, culturing, enumerating, and identifying microbes will also be emphasized. Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory weekly.
